North Pole
http://www.northpole.com Write to Santa, read stories and send e-cards.
What is the site about?
A non-commercial Christmas site that contains interactive learning activities, games, puzzles, recipes, stories and more. Suitable for Primary school children.
Why was it chosen as site of the week?
It was chosen because:
- There is a wide selection of online and printable activities to suit children in Primary schools.
- Parts of the site are animated which makes it visually engaging.
- If you write to Santa he will write back in 2 days. Type in your name, then make up a password – no need for an email address to get a reply. The personalised reply can be printed easily.
- It contains lots of different stories – they can be listened to, read online or printed as colouring books. Three stories can be personalised and either read online or printed.
- There are different sections for Parents, Teachers and Kids.
How can it be used as an educational resource?
The stories could be enjoyed as a whole class activity using a data projector.
In The Elves Games Chest there are crosswords, matching games using letters or numbers and simple colouring pages to complete online – children could work on these activities individually or in pairs.
The Teachers' Section clearly identifies which skills are being targeting in particular activities. The activities are educational for 4 – 10 year olds, while older children will still find them engaging.
Children of any age will find the site very enjoyable.
