TeachNet
http://www.teachnet.ie/
Projects for primary and post primary students covering all curricular areas.

What is the site about?

The site contains curriculum specific projects created by teachers in Irish primary and post primary schools. Currently, there are over 1200 resources.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

It was chosen because

  • The projects were developed by teachers currently teaching the various curricula in the Irish primary and post primary sectors
  • There are 387 primary projects, 446 junior cycle and 412 senior cycle projects
  • All projects follow the same structure and are therefore easy to follow
  • Assessment strategies for each are suggested
  • Online and offline activities are provided
  • There is a helpful section called "Internet usage" on using the Internet. It includes email, searching the Internet, Internet Safetyand tools for teachers
  • Interesting articles and links are presented in the Teachnet Learning Blog
  • Teachers with experience of integrating ICT in learning are encouraged to apply for grants and submit projects

How can it be used as an educational resource?

Projects on the site are specifically designed to cater for the primary and post primary syllabi. Most projects focus on collaborative learning, higher order thinking skills, individual learning and may be conducted in the one computer classroom or the computer lab scenario.

Fifth and sixth class teachers may like to sample the site by trying the Harry Potter resource.

Post-Primary teachers may choose a topic relevant to their subject.
