4. Brian Trevaskis on The Late Late Show: 1966
[AUDIO ONLY] In March 1966, student Brian Trevaskis created a furore with his comments on the Late Late Show. He criticised the Catholic Church for spending money on new churches and referred to the Bishop of Galway as “a moron”. The response was heated. He was invited back the following week to expand his views and in this clip we hear Trevaskis making his points. He voiced his concern for the future of the nation, especially in Europe; he argued that the talent of young Irish people was not being used to full potential; and he wondered if we could go on devoting so much money and effort to the building of churches to the neglect of social issues.
