Safer Internet Day around Europe
Safer Internet Day (SID) is being celebrated in Europe on Tuesday February 7th. SID is an annual event that promotes safer and more responsible use of the Internet and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.
This year SID will be centred around the theme Connecting Generations and Educating Each Other, with the slogan: "Discover the Internet together... safely!".
Suggestions for teachers and parents
Short online course on Internet Safety
To help celebrate Safer Internet Day on 7th February, NCTE learning online has made a short online course (40 mins), Internet Safety in School & Classroom, temporarily available to teachers without enrolment.  Why not check out this course as well as the other free online courses (a Scoilnet account is usually required to enrol). Note: enrolment for the Developing e-Learning in your School course closes soon!
Site of the week
  Lexipedia
Lexipedia is a visual online dictionary and thesaurus where meanings of words are presented alongside related words. It is very graphical and visually shows how words are inter-related. Contains versions in French, German, Spanish and Italian which could make it especially useful in language class.
