Lumper Schools Project Postponed

The Lumper Schools Project will be postponed for the foreseeable future.

The Lumper Schools Project sadly will be postponed for the foreseeable future. Due to the wet weather conditions during the year, the Lumper seed potatoes have been wiped out in the ground.

It will take five years to grow the Lumper seed potato back to the level it was previously at. This project has been a great educational tool for An Gorta Mór.

The Lumper Schools Project is run annually by the Committee for the Commemoration of the Irish Famine Victims.

 They had this to say:

It is with great sadness and regret we convey this news to the schools of Ireland, we take this opportunity to thank all the schools, schoolteachers and the school children of Ireland who participated in the Lumper Schools Project over the years and the Department of Education.

The LSP could not have happened without the kind support of The Glens of Antrim Potatoes who sponsored the project and Dunnes Stores who participated in the LSP in allowing the schools to collect their Lumper Schools Project Packs at Dunnes Stores.

CCIFV would like to thank all those mentioned above most sincerely for their partnership

and co-operation in participating in this worthwhile educational project on An Gorta Mór,

Ireland's greatest loss of life in our history and the scattering of our people to the Northern

and Southern hemispheres.

Next year will be the 180th anniversary of this catastrophe. Let us not forget them.
