What is the site about?

This site emphasises the practical nature of mathematics and its relevance in solving or explaining real world problems and issues. It covers areas such as braille, darts, the lottery, fruit machines, rankings in sport and much more.


 


Why was it chosen as site of the week?

  1. The combined interactivity and real world nature of the problems presented will motivate students and help them appreciate the importance of Mathematics
  2. The resources are relevant to Junior Cert students boys and girls and cater for differet student interests
  3. A large selection of topics are covered such as probability, statistics and number systems
  4. Descriptions are clearly written and activities are easy to follow
  5. Students are encouraged to try again before checking answers
  6. Each resource contains an activity at the end to reinforce student learning
  7. Connections are made between Maths and a number ofdifferent subjects such as Geography and Business.

How can it be used as an educational resource?

Each resource can be used as a lesson plan/activity by the teacher to introduce a new topic or to show the relevance of the topic to everyday when the topic is completed.
