What is the site about?The site is a provider of news stories written in a way that is attractive to students. Pupils can find out what is happening in the world about them. Current affairs, sport, music, animals are among the topis covered. Topical issues are also covered. The site also provides many resources for teachers.
Why was it chosen as site of the week?It was chosen because:
- it presents news stories in a child-friendly way
- it produces articles of an interesting nature
- it is a fun site with quizzes and games
- it is useful for class teachers as current news items are constantly updated
- contains a teacher section with many useful ideas and lesson plans
How can it be used as an educational resource?It is essentially a news site. As many teachers refer in class to current news items it would be an invaluable resource for information and pictures.Students could indicate the stories they find most interesting. Children could take turns in choosing a story from a particular section, eg sports. Pupils could follow-up on the stories at home. Many of the stories could provide a starting point for a class discussion or written activity. The review section could be looked at on a weekly basis to provide a discussion on movie and book reviews. The teacher
section contains hundreds of news-based lessons that could provide a starting point for a lot of activities.
