Site of the Week: Artjunction

http://www.artjunction.org/

Resources and activities to promote children’s artistic expression

   What is this site about?

The aim of this site is to provide a “structured virtual environment” for students to experiment with different techniques and to gain an appreciation of art. It supports “online cultural exchanges and joint creative work that result in shared learning experiences among teachers, students, artists, and other professionals.”

Why was it chosen as Site of the Week?
  • It has 15 quick “artsparkers” that can be used to stimulate children’s imagination
  • It provides advice for teachers on how to improve children’s  drawing and painting skills
  • The “Web 2.0 Workout” section includes videos, exercises  and links to different innovative artistic tools
  • There are more activities and imaginative exercises in the “Kids” section such as the “Artrageous hat
  • It includes several informative articles on art education in the classroom
  • The blog is also a useful means for teacher to stay in touch with the latest websites and developments

How can it be used an educational resource?

This site is ideal for teacher-led situations to introduce children to drawing, painting and craftwork with different materials, and exercises can be used as either stimulus or extension activities. Some of the sites shown in the Web 2.0 section are also suitable for use with interactive whiteboards.
