Teaching strategies and student resources for Maths, Languages. Arts, History and Science. (Post Primary)

What is the site about?
Learner.org/interactive is a part of a comprehensive teaching support programme that inlcudes videos, information on teaching strategies and online resources for students. It is aimed at the US K7-K12 grade levels.

Although, theses resources are referred to as Interactives, it is worth noting that some are static text based resources rather than Flash based ones.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

It was chosen because:

  • There is a good range of reading materials and student activities covering various subject areas
  • Interactives have a clear layout and are well written
  • The Spelling Bee is excellent and is pitched at multiple levels
  • Each interactive contains clearly illustrated diagrams and in some cases links to their sister site with information and ideas on related teaching strategies
  • An quiz or assessment tool is presented at the end of most interactives

How can it be used as an educational resource?

The following curricular areas and topics are covered.

Maths: Geometry 3 D Shapes, Metric Conversions, Pracitcal Maths Applications.
English: Story, Literature and Spelling.
History: Ancient Civilations, Renaisance, Middle Ages, United States History Map.
Science: Physics, Biology (DNA).
Geography: The Rock Cycle, Volcanoes, Weather.

The following table may be useful in making comparisions between the US and Irish system.
