What is the site about?

Maths is Fun focuses on basic maths skills. It also offers teachers and students helpful hints, advice and fun activities.

 Why was it chosen as site of the week?

It was chosen because: 

  • World Maths Day takes place on the 3rd March
  • There's an extensive list of activities covering maths concepts from acute angles to whole numbers
  • Engaging interactive puzzles and quizzes are used, for example, there's one on plotting co-ordinates on graph paper
  • A search function is available in addition to an A-Z Index page and an Index by Year and Subject page
  • The discussion forum for teachers covers areas such as teaching maths, learning about maths, fun stuff and maths is fun - the website
  • The language used is simple and child- centred
  • There's a useful dictionary
  • There is also a monthly newsletter.

    How can it be used as an educational resource?

    This could be used in maths at primary level or as a learning support aid at Junior and Senior Cycle level. Activities are categorised according to the US system and are presented on the Index by Year and Subject page. The following guide may be useful.

    Pre K    Age 4 -5 yrs
    2           Age 7- 8 yrs
    3-6        Ages 8 - 12yrs
    7-9        Ages 12 - 15yrs
    10 upwards Ages16 +
