What is this site about?This site is a collection of fables, myths, legends and folktales from around the British Isles and Europe. The stories are extremely visually engaging with nicely illustrated animations, and include transcripts and relevant multimedia resources. It also has downloadable teacher’s resources for classroom activities, as well as an application for students to create their own stories.

Why was it chosen as Site of the Week?- The site is an excellent resource for promoting reading, writing and the art of storytelling
- It features a wide variety of stories from more well-known legends such as “Finn MacCool and the Giant’s Causeway”, to local folktales
- Some of the stories are based on historical fact which can play an important role in developing historical understanding. See for example “A Mummy’s Tale”
- There is a comprehensive glossary with concise definitions which is a useful source of new vocabulary.

How can it be used in the classroom?This site is perfect in teacher-led scenarios with an interactive whiteboard to work on reading, writing and oral skills. Students can create their own stories to practice the narrative prose genre, and develop critical thinking by reflecting on and analysing themes and ideas in the different tales. Older students can also use their ICT skills to develop their stories using the Story Creator application either in individual or project work.
