Site of the Week: Jan 5 2009
NCCA
http://www.ncca.ie/en/
Resources, publications and examples on teaching, learning, assessment and the curriculum in Irish education.

What is the site about?

The NCCA is an organisation devoted to improving the quality of education at primary and secondary levels through curriculum and assessment reform. The site is divided into three sections, one describing the function of the NCCA, its current work, publications and information for parents, one outlining the curricula in Ireland and one devoted to action learning and teaching support material.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

It was chosen because:

  • It covers many levels of curriculum education such as early childhood, primary and post primary education in the context of ICT and inclusion.
  • A very useful section is presented to parents on how the curriculum in Ireland works.
  • There's an extensive publications section.
  • There are a number of podcasts covering areas such as early childhood education, assessment and languages.
  • The Action section is invaluable as a source of information and inspiration on how to use multimedia in teaching, learning and assessment in a number of key areas.

How can it be used as an educational resource?

The site is ideal for new and experienced teachers who are looking for up-to-date examples of learning and assessment. It is also one of the main points of  access to the various curricula and guidelines for teachers.
