Site fo the week: Cyberkidz

Cyberkidz

http://www.cyberkidz.co.uk/

What is the site about?

Educational games for  for 4-12 yr olds focusing on Maths, Literacy, Geography, Science, Music and Art.

Adobe Flash Player is required. It is best viewed on Internet Explorer 8 and FireFox 3.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

  1. There's a wide selection of games (approx 150) in multiple languages
  2. Games are highly visual, very engaging and age appropriate
  3. Each game has clear instructions,  a score summary, a help and stop function
  4. Games teach and test areas of the curriculum in a fun and interesting way. See the Water Animals section in the Science area for 10 year olds
  5. There are some excellent "drag 'n drop" mapping skills activites for Geography in the age 11 Geography category
  6. The Music games are very engaging as they allow you to explore the keys on a piano and compose your own tune. See Music 2 as an example
  7. The quizzes are graphical, therefore, appealing to visual learners. See The Eye or The Skeleton
  8. Games are flash based but direct linking is possible by right clicking on the thumbnail of the game.

How can it be used as an educational resource?

This site is ideal for use by teachers on a interactive whiteboard  to introduce new learning or assess and reinforce learning. It also lends itself well for student led learning and self assessment.

Teachers of preschoolers and infant classes may find this site a good starting point for practising mouse control and basic IT skills in addition to engaging learners in various subject areas.

Note: There is no print function in the online colouring section. Printing a screengrab may be necessary. Also contains some advertising.
