What is the site about?

This is the official Science Week website. The aim of Science Week is to promote the relevance of science, engineering and technology in our everyday lives and to demonstrate the importance of these disciplines to the future development of Irish society and to the economy.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

  1. It is Science Week from November 7th to 14th
  2. The website is suitable for both primary and post primary schools
  3. It provides details of events occuring all over the country
  4. It has resources and links relevant for teaching the Science subjects
  5. The website is clear, engaging and very easy to navigate
  6. It has some lovely features such as a web comic
  7. It has an excellent activity section containing quizzes, wordsearches, etc.
  8. It provides a very good parents' guide
  9. It has previous Science Week activity packs available to download, as well as information and posters to download for this year's event
  10. Videos of the lecture series for Science Week will be uploaded and made available from the website

How can it be used as an educational resource?

The theme of Science Week this year is 'Our Place in Space’.  The activities and resources on the website provide plenty of materials to showcase how important Science is, whilst also highlighting how fun it can be too.  The short videos in the Activities section provide nice examples of Science in use.

The parents' guide also provides nice advice so that parents can also engage and encourage Science for their children.
