Modules for different subject areas on the topic of energy and climate change.

What is the site about?
The site looks at all aspects of energy,  how it is used, misued and saved.

SEAI recently unveiled a five-year strategic plan with the aim of transforming Ireland into a society based on sustainable energy structures, practices and technologies

Why was it chosen as Site of the Week?
  • Site is easy to use with modules available to download for each subject area covered
  • It contains clear definitions and descriptions and a good range of illustrations within each section
  • Printable activities are engaging. See the activity sheet comparing wind and coal
  • The interactive Energy game is well constructed bringing you to each room in a house and asking you how energy may be saved
  • It includes an animated movie explaning energy and how it is used and misused
  • It is relevant to Earth Hour, taking place on the 27th March
  • Practical resources in the form of  guides, manuals, tips and articles on various energy related topics are listed
  • Information on getting involved in a school based project called One Good Project is useful
  • A primary school version of the site is also available which will be reviewed later in the year.

How can it be used as an educational resource?

This resource could be used to support a lesson on energy efficiency and climate change in general. Aimed at teacher-led scenarios, the relevant sections of the resource may be printed off and used mainly as notes and worksheets.

Interactive and online elements of this resource comprise an Energy Game and an animated movie. These may be uses in both individual learning and teacher led situations for either motivational or assessment for learning purposes.
