Voki

What is the site about?

Voki is a free service that allows you to create personalised speaking avatars/characters and use them on your blog, profile, and in email messages.  There is a new separate Voki for Education section.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

  1. The site has a new Education section.
  2. It is easy to use.
  3. The site is visually appealing and gives students plenty of choice in designing their avatars.
  4. It motivates students to participate and can improve comprehension.
  5. It aids literacy.
  6. It is free.
  7. The personalised, speaking avatars can be added to your school blog or in email messages.
  8. Lesson plans from other users are available.
  9. There is a Teacher's Corner.

How can it be used as an educational resource?

Any project that requires a presentation (e.g. poems, geography/countries, characters from History) could use Voki.  It is also a great way for students to present their work, especially in English or a foreign language.

Voki can be used as a reward for achievement, for revision, or as a way of introducing a topic/vocabulary.

A great aid to literacy and also communication.
