The Internet Safety site in Ireland for teachers, parents and students.



What is the site about?

Responsible for promoting safe use of the Internet and mobile devices and aimed at teachers, students and parents, Webwise is co-funded by the European Union Safer Internet Programme and the Department of Education and Skills.

Its remit is to ensure awareness of the benefits of the Internet as well as its risks by offering advice, tips, resources, parent seminars and other key supports at both primary and post primary level.

Why was it chosen as site of the week?

  • Webwise is leading the celebrations for Safer Internet Day on the 7th Febuary 2012
  • Provides a range of fun activities for parents and children suitable for this year's theme of Connecting Generations
  • Offers ideas on how primary schools can get involved in online activities for Safer Interenet Day. See What is Text Bullying.
  • Contains comprehensive resource packs for teachers at primary and post primary level. See Learning Resources section.
  • Gives information on attending a range of national workshops for parents. Click here for details.

  • A sample AUP, letter to parents and AUP checklist is also available.
How may it be used as an educational resource?

Details on how it may be used as a educational resource at both primary and post level are outline here. Learning resources comprise online activities suitable for whole class teaching and personalised learning scenarios and printed material suitable for revision and assessment based learning.
