Why was it chosen as site of the week?
- It's a valuable repository for primary source material
- Navigation is excellent. Items are browsed by place, time, topic, type and contributing institution
- Descriptions are clear and detailed
- The zoom feature allows closer examination of items
- Related items appear under each individual item
- Information is available in multiple languages
- There's a very informative Help section
How can it be used as an educational resource? The site is probably best used by teachers and post
primary students for general research purposes, although, individual based learning or teacher led demonstrations (using a dataprojector) can be accommodated. It has some relevance
to the History, Geography and English subject areas. Consider the
following items as curricular support. The Arrival of Immigrants to Elis Island Video (American History) Interview with Fountain Hughes Audio (American History) The Book of Urizen, by William Blake - Book (Senior Cycle English) A Modern Depiction of Ireland (1598) - Map (Geography & History)
Note: The site may be considered a work in
progress and you'll notice there is only one item listed for Ireland.
