     What is this site about?

This website was created by the World Bank to raise awareness about problems affecting the developing world. It explores important topics such as climate change, education, the environment, globalization, trade and urbanization.


Why was it chosen as Site of the Week?
  • It includes practical resources for teachers in the form of printable discussion points, stories, facts and quizzes. See the Resources 4teachers section.
  • There are numerous multimedia resources on each of the topics in the form of audio clips, photo galleries, slideshows, videos and interactive games. Check out this game on globalization (requires Flash).
  • It provides details on how to develop further lessons through extension activities.
  • There is a lot of useful information on how to get involved such as the Biodiversity Art Competition.
  • It is relevant to the World Fair Trade Day which took place on May 8th.

How can this site be used as an educational resource?

This site can be used to support lessons about globalization, urbanization, etc., and the developing world in general. The printable PDFs can be used in teacher-led situation as additional notes and worksheets. The videos and photos are excellent visual aids and are suitable for interactive whiteboards. The games can also be used for individual or teacher-led learning.
