JC History: Ancient Civilisation
Ancient Civilization can be subdivided into three categories.

(1)  Ancient Ireland


A good starting point are the media clips on Mount Sandal which give an excellent overview of the Mesolithic people (hunter gatherers) with great visuals and lots of extra information available when you click on related content.

The next chronological group is the Neolithic people (first farmers). Take a look at some great media clips with extra information available in the related content.

The presence of Ogham stones are a very common sight in Ireland Discover why they were erected and what they symbolised.

(2)  Romans

The BBC Romans is a wonderful site giving students lots of information on the city of, invasion, rebellion, roads, the army etc. There are a host of on-line activities, a good glossary and timeline. 

This brief audio sketch from the film The Life of Brian gives very good examples of what the Romans contributed to British society.

There are lots of printable worksheets available and you can also access the corresponding information on Ancient Greece.

If you are interested in Roman buildings and want some information on the building of the Colosseum this interactive site is worth visiting.

(3)  Ancient Greece

This site has wonderful graphics and gives students a very simple overview of Ancient Greece.

If you would like information on Greek theatre this site is very straightforward and visually very attractive.

To access information on The Olympic Games check out this student friendly interactive site. It is visually very attractive.

If you still need more information and are happy to go into the realm of make-believe then you can access an imaginary news site from ancient times which is written from the perspective of the time. You will find a myriad of information on ancient Greece and ancient Rome.
