Your Questions: What is Scoilnet Webhosting / Blogging
Q. What is Scoilnet Webhosting / Blogging?

A
. The Scoilnet webhosting-blogging service provides both a website hosting and a blogging service for Primary and Post Primary schools. The Scoilnet blogging service allows schools to easily develop a school website or school blog and host it for free on the schools broadband network. The blogging service supports different types of content, including text, images, audio, including podcasts and video clips.

Both the blogging and webhosting service are currently available to schools via the NCTE Service Desk, so schools who contact the Service Desk will receive information on how to get webhosting and blogging up and running.

To support schools, the NCTE also runs the following course entitled, 'Creating your School’s Website or Blog (using Scoilnet Blogs)'. Consult http://www.ncte.ie/Training/Courses/PrimaryPostPrimary/Name,19440,en.html for further information.

There is also an informative support wiki on all Scoilnet Services offered as part of the Schools Broadband programme - Web hosting and Blogs are included here http://support.scoilnet.ie/wiki/Main_Page

Next Steps:
If your school wishes to apply to use the Webhosting-blogging service, the following are the steps you'll need to take.

1. First an 'Online Name' is required. To obtain one, go to https://onlinenames.scoilnet.ie for further details. A letter was sent to your school principal with login access details in May 2008. If you do not have these login access details you may contact the NCTE Service Desk at 1800 33 44 66, and they will assist you.

2. School Principals are required to sign the Webhosting Application Form as part of the application process. This form is available from the NCTE Service Desk. Schools should then return the signed application form to the NCTE Service Desk.

3. Applications forms will be processed by the NCTE Service Desk and where forms are successfully completed, login details for the webhosting-blogging service will be sent to the school, along with other relevant information.
