Examines the role of the Royal Munster Fusiliers regiment in World War I and in particular their role in Gallipoli and at the Somme. Also focuses on Victoria Cross winner William Cosgrove who was typical of many ordinary people caught up in the war.
This essay was a winning entry from students at Colaiste Choilm (Ballincollig) in the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ All-Island Schools History Competition 2014 organised jointly by the Departments of Education in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
