Christmas Traditions Around the World

Added: 12 Aug 2016 Contributor: Kathryn Walsh Resource type: Reference

Articles explaining how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Choose your country to read about their culture and traditions associated with Christmas time.

How it maps to the curriculum

3-4
SPHE

Strand: Myself & the Wider World

Strand unit: Developing citizenship

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • become aware of his/her own culture and recognise traditions, festivals and celebrations that are unique to the locality, region or country
  • begin to develop an awareness of the lives and culture of some people in the European Union

Suggestions for use: Set each group a different country to read and explore. Groups explain to the class their countries traditions at Christmas time. Class must then compare and contrast countries to one another by setting new groups - getting one person to present each country within the new group.
