Factor Challenge

Added: 19 Nov 2011 Contributor: Scoilnet Resource type: Game

Interactive game which can be played against the computer or else as a two player game. On the right hand side is a link to a lesson plan for the game. The aim is to find as many factors of a chosen number, colour a numbered box thus making it your box. The player with the most boxes/factors wins. There is a clear instructions section for the game.

How it maps to the curriculum

5-6
Mathematics

Strand: Number

Strand unit: Number Theory

Suggestions for use: Teacher should demonstrate the game on the IWB first. The game is ideally suited to pair work, if the school has laptops or a computer room, this would be an ideal site to explore factors. Children could play against each other, with talk and discussion before and after each game. Tactics of the gameplay and a record of moves taken / scores achieved would further the learning potential.
