My Profile Image

Valérie David-McGonnell

Native French teacher, teaching Junior and Senior Cycle levels since 1999. My qualifications include a Postgraduate Diploma and a Professional Master’s Degree in the Teaching of French as a Foreign and Second Language, a Postgraduate Diploma and an MA in English Studies (Université de Caen), and the IoL Diploma in Translation (English to French). The thesis of my Professional Master's Degree concerned the use of ICT in the teaching of French to promote students' awareness of the importance of pronunciation in French. The thesis of my MA in English studies was about the teaching of the four main MFLs at post-primary level in Ireland, from independence to the Junior Cycle reform. I have published several academic articles in peer-reviewed journals (about the use of ICT to develop second-level students' L2 pronunciation, the assessment of the intercultural competence at Senior Cycle level, L2 motivation in adult learners of French, and the teaching of French in the Republic of Ireland). I have also written and published my second school book in 2022 : Écouter, comprendre et produire (CJ Fallon). I introduced the first French language proficiency DELF Scolaire examination session in County Cork in 2017. I served as a member of the Executive Committee of the Cork French Teachers' Association from 2015 to 2021 (Chairperson from 2018 to 2021), and I am currently President of the AIPLF, the Irish Association of French-Language Teachers. https://aiplf-ireland.com/
