The State Examinations Commission (SEC) successfully used an online marking system to mark Junior
Certificate Higher Level French in 2016, and Junior Certificate Higher Level French and Junior Cycle English in 2017. This year, the following subjects will be marked online.

There is no significant change for candidates. They will sit their examinations in the normal way. When the scripts are returned to SEC their scripts will be scanned and will become an electronic script. The paper script will also be retained. The scanned images of the candidates’ examination scripts will then be marked by examiners using specially designed software. Candidates sitting any of the examinations in subjects which will be marked online should be made aware of the information within the S51/19 Circular. Click here for a copy of the S51/19 Circular.
