India's biggest and most important festival of the year which is also celebrated outside India - even in Ireland. The festivities last for five days and the fourth day marks the start of the new year on the Hindu calendar.
People celebrate with family gatherings, glittering lamps, festive fireworks, strings of electric lights, bonfires, flowers, sharing of sweets, and worship to Lakshmi.
