St Brigid's Day

Wednesday, 21 December 2022

An important feast day in Ireland. There are many spellings for her name - Brigid, Brigit, Bríd, Bridget and Bride. Do you know any one with that name?St Brigid was born near Dundalk in the 5th century and was important in spreading Christianity in ireland.

And what about the cross? It is said that when her father was ill, she sat by him and to pass the time she gathered rushes and started making these crosses. That is why today we call them St. Brigid's crosses! St. Brigid died on February 1st and that is how we remember it today!
