World Population Day

Monday, 11 July 2022

This day has been marked by the United Nations since 1989 - two years after the world's population went past the 5 billion mark. The day is one for reflection on demographic trends and development in increasingly crowded world with limited resources.

In a world where the population is growing every day there are challenges relating to sustainability, urbanisation, access to health services and youth empowerment.

In the classroom: Check out the Breathing Earth website and find statistics for countries, like population growth and the amount of CO2 ommissions produced.
