Using Search Filters

How do I use the search filters?

Screengrab of search filters

When Search results are returned, the search filters appear on the left. You now have the option to narrow your results by subject, level, strand/section, stand unit, resource type and language in addition to viewing the total number of resources in each filter. It is also possible to search other sources such as Britannica, Imagebank and Ask About Ireland.

Should you choose to filter your search results, your selection is highlighted in bold and denoted by an orange square. In the following example, the search results for castle at primary level returns 10 resources for SESE History and two for Visual Arts. This may be filtered further by level which then presents six at 3rdand 4th and 10 at 5th and 6th.

Can I just use one filter?

Yes. If you want to only see results for one subject level or you are looking for something specific, for example lesson plans for magnets, you can skip the other filters and go straight to selecting lesson plans under the Resource Type filter. This will give you the total number of lesson plans across all subjects and levels.

If a resource type isn’t displaying as an option, it means that there are none associated with the word or phrase for which you are searching. For example, you may be looking for an App on magnets and the term App is not appearing in the search filter. This is due to the fact that there are no Apps for that specific topic present in the Scoilnet database.

This might present a good opportunity for you to upload your own lesson plan in the Add a Resource section with a view to sharing it with others.

How do I clear filters?

Filters are easily cleared by clicking on the clear selected filters button. This way you can return to the original number of resources displayed and continue browsing or refine your results by selecting a different set of filters.
