St Oliver's NS
Carlingford, Co. Louth

Well done to St Oliver's N.S. of Carlingford, Co. Louth for winning Scoilnet's Star Site award!

The St Oliver's National School website has a very simple and clean design with a good use of colour and space. There is a navigation bar directly under the homepage banner which makes it easy for visitors to navigate the website. There is also a list of navigation links along the right hand side of the page which are divided up into such sections as Class Learning Logs, Parent Information, Projects and Staff & Pupil links. The homepage also contains a blog style record of events and activities in the school which is ordered chronologically and an online calendar of school events is embedded at the bottom of the homepage.

The main navigation bar contains links to information on the school, enrolment policy information, the Parent's Association and School Self Evaluation, all of which are of vital importance for the school's site to be used as a good communication tool. However, the most interesting aspect of the website is the navigation bar to the right hand side of the homepage. Each class in St Oliver's NS has their own dedicated Class Learning Log which features useful links, weekly assessments and plans for the school year. Perhaps the most useful feature of the Class Learning Log is that the pupils' homework is posted to the website each evening eliminating the "I forgot my homework journal" excuse!

The Projects section of the website outlines the previous and ongoing achievements within the school over the past few years. These achievements include Active School Flag, Blue Star Award, Green School's Award and STEM Excellence. Each of these links includes photos and an outline of the goals achieved by the pupils and staff. The site also contains a separate section for staff for eportfolios and staff email. This is an excellent use of the site as a communication tool and provides opportunities for collaboration and cooperation between staff members.

It's easy to see that St Oliver's NS embraces technology when it comes to digital learning. St Oliver's National School's website is well maintained and kept up to date and reflects the pride that the pupils, teachers, staff and parents take in the school. Congratulations on winning Scoilnet's Star Site award!
