Tools to Support Visually Impaired Students

Here are details for two applications which you download to your computer to assist a visually impaired student using the computer. This will provide the pupil will the support to give them some independence in the classroom.

Why is it Resource of the Week?

  1. There are two tools listed to support the learning of visually impaired students.
  2. There is an application recommended for Apple computers and another for PC's, making them more accessible.
  3. The VoiceOver application is a tool that can be used to introduce students to the life of a visually impaired peer as it not only provides voice, it also displays braille on the screen.
  4. The JAWS application also supports braille keyboards providing the visually impaired student more independence.
  5. Many timers to choose from. Students can be involved in the choosing process of the timer which creates a sense of belonging and acceptance to the use of the timer tool in class.
