ULSTER SOLEMN LEAGUE AND COVENANT

The Ulster Covenant was signed by almost half a million men and women from Ulster, on and before 28 September 1912, in protest against the Third Home Rule Bill, introduced by the British Government.

Fred Crawford and the UVF Gunrunning

Explores the role played by Fred Crawford in the event known as the 'Larne gunrunning'. Traces Crawford's dealings with the German gun manufacturer Bruno Spiro and his various attempts to arm the Ulster Volunteer Force as they reacted to the possibility of Home Rule.
This essay was a winning entry from a student at Methodist College Belfast in the ‘Decade of Centenaries’ All-Island Schools History Competition 2014 - organised jointly by the Departments of Education in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
