Added: 02 Dec 2014 Contributor: Scoilnet Resource type: Eile

A collection of 16 Christmas inspired tongue twisters from the early childhood Ireland website featuring both simple and complex words.

How it maps to the curriculum

3-4
5-6
Béarla

Strand: Léitheoireacht

Content objective:
Ba chóir go ligfeadh acmhainn seo do pháiste:

  • éirí ina léitheoir níos neamhspleáiche
  • leanúint d’earráidí léitheoireachta a fhéincheartú
  • focail neamhchoitianta a aithint trí thagairt do chodanna focail, réimíreanna agus iarmhíreanna

Suggestions for use: Divide the class into small groups, distributing a different tongue twister to each group. Allow children time to read it together in their groups and then in front of the class. Distribute a different tongue twister to each group and do same if time permits. Extend the activity by allowing children to create their own tongue twister.

Strand: Léitheoireacht

Suggestions for use: Present the tongue twister examples on the IWB as a fun stimulus to an activity that requires children to formulate more complex examples and later challenging their peers to read them with precision.
