The purpose of this collection is to encourage students to investigate situations in which letters stand for quantities that are variables so that they can:
(a) Generate and interpret expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
(b) Find the values of expressions given the value of the variables.
Originally, the resources were created for a first year class.
