The purpose of this collection is to encourage students to investigate properties of points, lines and line segments in the co-ordinate plane so that students can find and interpret the midpoint and slope of a line.
Originally, the resources were created for a first year class.
A PowerPoint introducing the Co-Ordinate Plane: Where it came from; how to read points from the plane; how to plot points on the plane, the connection with Geography. There are activities included in the PowerPoint.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: This PowerPoint covers Learning Outcome GT5 and covers the Unifying strand of Representation (U4.), Building Blocks (U1 and U2)
Key Skills: Communicating Managing Information and Thinking Working with Others Literacy Numeracy Managing Myself
An interactive foldable students can make which illustrates the quadrants in the co-ordinate plane.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: Give the students the xy graph and a copy of a completed foldable. Have students make it for homework and stick into their notes copies.
A Kahoot created to practice reading points from the X, Y plane. Contains 4 questions. Ideal for an extra review of knowledge.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: Have students do this kahoot after correcting homework, or as a quick review at the beginning of a lesson.
PowerPoint that shows how to get the midpoint of a line segment, introduces students to the midpoint formula, includes exercises that help practice how to get the midpoint. Questions are included which can be used for plickers.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: After completing the lesson of introducing the co-ordinate plane. This PowerPoint can be used to teach students about the MidPoint of a line and how to get it. The presentation also shows students how the formula for the midpoint comes about. There are practice exercises. I would recommend the teacher creating a plickers quiz. I have done this but am unable to share plickers quizzes. There is a worksheet to accompany this PowerPoint - Midpoint of a Line worksheet
Worksheet to go along with the MidPoint of the Line PowerPoint.

Suggestions for use: To be given to students when using the Midpoint of a Line PowerPoint presentation
Midpoint of a line worksheet which gets the students to find the midpoint of a line visually and has them plot points.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: After briefly introducing the Midpoint of a Line, I would have students complete this worksheet. It is a good revision of how to plot points. This does not have students find the midpoint using the formula.
A lesson explaining what the slope of a line is. This presentation shows how to get the slope of a line from a graph and how to get the slope of a line using the formula. It also shows what a positive, negative, zero and undefined slope looks like.

Strand unit: 5. The Co-Ordinate Plane
Suggestions for use: This can be used to teach the slope of a line to first years.
Worksheet which contains questions requiring the students to get the slope of a line from several graphs and also to get the slope of a line when given two points.

Suggestions for use: Can be used alongside the PowerPoint for Slope of a Line.
