UCD Maths Support Centre in conjunction with the UCD Access Support Centre created the following collection of resources for Leaving Certificate Mathematics students. The videos and accompanying PDF were designed for both the Higher and Ordinary Level Mathematics course.
This collection focuses on the Leaving Certificate Mathematics Strand 5: Functions.
Designed for OL & HL students.
What is a function? How do functions work?
The following three video clips introduce you to functions.
Designed for OL & HL students.
In the following videos, you will learn how to identify a linear function, determine the equation of a linear function from a graph, and sketch a linear function.
Designed for OL & HL students.
The following videos look at how you can find the roots when you are given the graph of a function or when you are given the equation of a function.
Designed for HL students only.
These videos will show you how easy it is to write functions in perfect square form, how to sketch functions once you have them in completed square form, and how to find the roots of a quadratic function in completed square form. Worked examples are provided. These four videos were designed for the higher level Mathematics course.
Designed for HL students only.
What -jective?
The following videos look at how you can classify functions as injective, surjective or bijective.
These videos are designed for the higher level Mathematics course.
Designed for OL & HL students.
Watch the following videos to learn about function composition. This topic appears on the higher and ordinary level Mathematics course. The instructor demonstrates how to you can read composition notations as well as demonstrating how you can respond to exam style questions.
Designed for HL students only.
What is meant by the inverse of a function?
These videos demonstrate how you can find the inverse when given an equation or when given a graph. A special case of inverse functions are the log and exponential functions. Learn more about these special cases of inverse functions with these videos. Videos were designed for the higher level Mathematics course.
To register for a Scoilnet Account you will need to have a Teaching Council number and a roll number for your school in Ireland.
If you already have a Scoilnet Account then you can sign in here.
A Scoilnet account will allow you to upload your resources or weblinks to Scoilnet as well as enabling you to share and add resources to a favourites listing. Users who have a Scoilnet Account will also be able to fully access Scoilnet Maps and Census@School from home.
