Solving Equations

Solving Equations and Forming Equations

Designed for OL   &   HL students. (Video three is for HL students only)
Video one looks at how you can solve a linear equation by finding the value of x that makes the equation true.
Video two looks at how you can solve a quadratic equation by finding the values of x which satisfy the equation. After watching these videos, try to form the quadratic equation when given the two roots. Video three was designed for higher level Mathematics students and it demonstrates how you can form the quadratic equation when given the two roots.

Simultaneous Equations

Designed for OL   &   HL students. (Video two is for HL students only)
Learn how to solve the simultaneous equation by finding the intersection point of two linear equations. The second video is designed for the higher level Mathematics course and looks at how you can find the intersection point of equations with three variables.

One Linear, One Quadratic Equation

Designed for OL   &   HL students. (Video two is for HL students only)
Learn how to find the point(s) of intersection between a linear and a quadratic equation using the method of substitution. The second video is designed for the higher level Mathematics course and it demonstrates how you can solve a difficult exam question involving linear and quadratic equations.

The Factor Theorem

https://www.scoilnet.ieuploads/resources/28744/28480.pdf Added: 05 Nov 2018 Contributor: UCD MSC Resource type: Guide/notes

The (x−a) is a factor of the polynomial f(x) if and only if f(a) = 0. This UCD MSC document introduces higher level students to the factor theorem by demonstrating two examples of how it can be used. The examples shown are for higher level students.
