Time in Transition: It’s About Time 2 was designed specifically to integrate across the TY programme. It aimed to inform Transition Year students about archaeology in an interesting and interactive way. As archaeology is a very practical subject, it was hoped that the students would readily engage with it, and acquire the skills and knowledge to appreciate the richness of their local heritage.
This multi-media resource pack is divided into three Themes: Worship and Commemoration, Lifestyles and Living and Archaeology at Work. Each theme has four Units with each unit comprising of two Lessons. Irish resources are available on the COGG website.
These resources were created in collaborative between Limerick Education Centre and the Department of the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Theme 1, Worship & Commemoration, has units on worship; monasticism; pilgrimage and commemoration. This theme covers a large part of the archaeological record; many of the monuments and artefacts that archaeologists study relate to how people worshipped in past times and how they buried and commemorated their dead.

Theme 2, Living and Lifestyle, has units on houses, defence, towns and lifestyle. Thesefour topics relate to critical aspects of human life, combining the provision of basicsocial needs with the use of technology. This theme ranges from the primitive hut of aStone Age hunter to the sophisticated arrangements of a walled medieval town

Theme 3, Archaeology at Work,focuses on the subject of archaeology itself. It looks at how archaeologists research and discover monuments using maps, the internet and other sources. It also examines the processes of archaeological excavation and archaeology as a profession in Ireland.
