The Irish Diaspora, 1840 -1966

Although economic expansion did create job opportunities in Ireland in the 1960s, the west of Ireland continued to suffer high emigration rates due to lack of employment opportunities. The two clips explored here show the extent of emigration from the west of Ireland and the impact of emigration on the communities that lived there.
