Amazing tool recommended at the Digital MegaMeet. A teacher gasped "Why am I not using this website?". It's easy to use and not overwhelming to maneuver. Excellent for use in preparing for the dreaded Sigma T test. Functions vary from early maths activities right up to algebra and co-ordinate geometry.
Perfect for learning about graphs and drawing graph (with no crooked lines)
Perfect for turning your browser into an interactive whiteboard that can be used to manipulate counters, shapes, dice, spinners, protractors and weights for early maths learners.
It also allows you to introduce a timer, ruler or stopwatch easily and quickly while you work on the board.

Students will be shocked to realise that maths is used in coding and programming of the computer games they play! Use the game: Movie first as an introduction. Then move to Turtle.

Why teach students Raspberry Pi? Don't let our technology confident modern generation of students suffer from growing up with low level skills in computer science. Let the barrier to content creation be broken down together, learn with your students and learn to love learning again. Raspberry Pi is a credit card computer whereby students can build games and roborts from using basic coding language (Python). Students won't initially know they are coding or using programming, but they will be interconnecting with the process of programme development. They will learn that coding and programming isn't as complicated as it sounds. Students will ask questions. They will learn through seeing, questioning, being inspired, through making things, through overcoming obstacles like levels in a computer game.

Suggestions for use: Use the scheme of work on "Sensing the Weather" to plan your lessons on recording weather observation data. Students will consider the importance of collecting weather data and how this can be done. They will connect some simple sensors, be introduced to the Python programming language, and learn some techniques to gather sensor data.
By creating a simple weather station with Raspberry Pi, students will learn:

How weather predictions are made, and the importance of data collection
How to use GPIO pins
How to create a simple circuit on a breadboard
How to detect inputs from GPIO pins with Python code

Going beyond the confinement of a textbook by bringing MINECRAFT into your classroom. Your students will learn many social skills with the freedom to think outside the box; the only limit there is with Minecraft is what you can think of doing.
Using blocks, students are empowered to create their own imaginary dream world. As a teacher, you will be amazed in seeing the world created through a child’s eye. The student’s eyes will light up when they know you have seen the spirit of their creativity. Students automatically take ownership for their work becoming overly involved and eager to explain the concepts behind their world.
Minecraft can link to many subjects, it is up to you how you want to creatively incorporate it. Everyone starts with a blank slate but are provided with blocks. Younger students will learn volume; in how many blocks will make one bigger block. Some pupils will become passionate about their creative artistic constructions that they will produce a storyboard to interact with Minecraft.
Let pupils be free thinkers and see what ideas they can bring to the world we know so much about.

Once students have their Minecraft world build, next stage is to allow students to share their worlds with each other along with their future ideas. Once shared, they need to keep their worlds safe by introducing their world in their creative story writing exercise before it vanishes from memory forever.

Audio to read the story is controlled by the pupil. Pupil can truly challenge themselves to read the story first on their own and then to check the words they struggled with by clicking on the words.
The audio is slow to give students a chance to recognize the pronunciation and letter association to sound. The story can be viewed in lined paper format also so that students can unconsciously connect how letters in words are presented on paper.

Voki has been recommended at this year's Digital MegaMeet conference. It is an online free platform (register for free if you want to save your Avatars). Use Voki in class to help your students imaginatively develop their characters or to develop their self-esteem and public speaking confidence. The site is in English but could be easily incorporated into English, Irish and Drama classes. Use Voki as a fun way to record pupils reading poems, daily news in cartoon form. Pupils love taking care of their avatars ensuring they are learning just as much as they are!

Use drones for student models of cells:
Look at the micro world and the macro world. Have a few kids be "cells" of an unknown creature. Pin signs to them with different labels giving hints as to what the broader organism might be. Slowly zoom out and at each 10 feet of distance or so learn a little more about the macro environment in which the cells live. Zoom out entirely to see the plant or creatures in which the cells function.
Use in science to demonstrate the real meaning of magnification.
Recreate the Powers of 10 video. Remember? The camera started at ground level and pulled back illustrating what the world looked like zooming out by the power of 10. The drones only go so far, so kids can incorporate the footage with their own illustrations in post.

What better way to introduce students to a piece literature than to have them speak with the author that created the work? Many authors will participate in a short video call with classes to answer questions or to read portions of their books.
The Skype an Author Network is a great place to find authors who are willing to Skype with classes. The site provides a list of authors and information regarding the specifics of what they will present during a call. One of their main prerequisites for making a call is that the students have read at least one of their books.
BRING EXPERTS TO YOUR CLASSROOM
Regardless of your location, it can be difficult to find experts in various subject areas who are able to travel to your school and share information with students. Setting up a Skype call can be a practical option.
To find willing partners, check with universities, museums, government agencies, or businesses to find potential speakers for your class. You might be surprised at who says yes.
TAKE VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS
School budgets have taken a huge hit in recent years making it increasingly difficult to take field trips. While it’s not the same as loading up the bus and driving to the museum, taking a virtual tour using Skype can be the next-best thing.
Check with museums, historical attractions, and other locations to see if they have someone on site who would be willing to conduct a virtual tour for your class. If you can’t find an employee at a specific location, solicit the help of a friend who may be traveling. Set up a schedule and have them Skype in to share the sites they see along the way.
