Worldbook Presentation on Magnetism.

https://www.worldbookonline.com/kids/home#article/ar831107 Added: 10 Jul 2019 Contributor: Eilis Knight Resource type: Other

Use this resource as an aid for the children to complete project work on the area of magnetism. This would be used when the children have gained a large amount of knowledge in the area of magnetism and they feel confident to partake in a group project. The children would work in small groups of 3-4 and they would present their findings and information to the whole class in the end. I would use video recording of the children presenting their information as a form of assessment.

Content objective:
This resource should enable a child to:

  • examine and classify objects and materials as magnetic and non-magnetic
  • explore how magnets have poles and investigate how these poles attract and repel each other
  • explore the relationship between magnets and compasses
  • investigate that magnets attract certain materials through other materials
  • learn that magnets can push or pull magnetic materials

Suggestions for use: I would use this resource as an aid for the children to complete project work on the area of magnetism. Magnetism Video- Introduction to Magnetism.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXCeuSiTOug&t=9s Added: 10 Jul 2019 Contributor: Eilis Knight Resource type: Audio / Video

This resource is a Youtube video clip which can be used as a stimulus for children to talk and discuss magnetism in their groups. I would use this after The K section of the KWL chart.

Magnets and Springs Interactive Resource

https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/articles/zpvcrdm Added: 10 Jul 2019 Contributor: Eilis Knight Resource type: Other

This is an online interactive resource which the teacher and children can be involved in. This resource in my opinion is good to use after the children have gained a lot of information about the topic of magnetism and have completed a number of experiments involving magnets. It involves a virtual space where the children can test and see which objects will be attracted to the magnets and they can give the reasons why or why not. There are worksheets which are free to download from this website which can be given to the children based on the interactive work about magnets.

Primary Science Lesson Plan Based Around Magnetism.

http://www.sfi.ie/site-files/primar...nce/media/pdfs/col/magnetic_car.pdf Added: 10 Jul 2019 Contributor: Eilis Knight Resource type: Lesson Plan

This resource is lesson plan ideas for teachers to aid with the content level and the topic of magnetism. The teachers can choose which experiments they want to conduct with the children in their class. The lessons and experiments are step by step procedures with worksheet aid and also includes links to other websites for further development of these lessons. While the children are taking part in their experiments, I think it would be beneficial to take a photo story of the steps involved in their experimentation and then it would be possible for the children to use these photo stories to create a procedural piece after about their magnetism experiments.
