Documentary shares people's stories about Christmas and their constant worry of getting a lump of coal in their stocking. A nice documentary highlighting the role of storytelling in our society.

RTE website based on the Patrick Kavanagh poem, 'A Christmas Childhood'. The website contains a video clip of a reading of a poem and an audio clip containing vox pops where members of the public give their reactions to the poem.

Suggestions for use: The video clip of a young boy reading the poem could be shown to engage students during their first and second readings of the poem. Having explored the poem in some detail, students could listen to the vox pop audio clip and discuss in pairs whether or not their reactions to the poem are similar to the reactions of the members of the public speaking in the vox pop.
