Suggestions for use: There are lesson activities available on Scoilnet relating to three sections of this exhibition: 'Caledon Protest'; 'First Civil Rights March'; 'Derry 5 October 1968'. These activities are aimed at Leaving Certificate History students studying the Civil Rights movement as part of the topic 'Politics and Society in Northern Ireland, 1949-1993'.

The march descended into violence with RUC officers attacking protestors with batons. This march is widely considered to be the event that started 'the Troubles' in Northern Ireland.
