Education for Sustainable Development Newsletter

The Department of Education's newsletter on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will keep you up to date with the latest ESD news.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is key to implementation of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The Department of Education published the National Strategy on Education for Sustainable Development in 2014 and since then considerable work has been done integrating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) themes and principles into:

  • the curriculum
  • initial teacher education and continuing professional development
  • the assessment and inspection processes

The current ESD Strategy comes to an end in 2020 and the Department plans to develop a new strategy to 2030. As part of this process, a public consultation will be held in 2021 to get your views on what should be included in a new strategy. Further information will be provided in future editions of the ESD Newsletter and on the Department's website
