Maths Week 2023

Welcome to the Oide Primary STEM Maths Week page. We are delighted to partner with Scoilnet to bring you fun and enjoyable activities. We are highlighting how to infuse Mathematics and Literacy using picture books for all ages. We hope these resources will help spark creativity and imagination, leading to an enjoyable and rich Maths week for everyone.

The integration of mathematics with other subjects is an important factor in broadening the child’s education… Children do not naturally make connections between work in one curriculum area and that in another, so it is important to help them to understand that mathematics is useful in their work in other areas… Integration adds to the child’s enjoyment of mathematics, gives him/her added interest in the subject and encourages transfer of learning (PMC, 1999, p.46).

Through the following activities, we aim to infuse the creative nature of story and storytelling (oral and written language) with Mathematics. Using these playful approaches pupils, either individually or collaboratively, can develop their mathematical language and concepts.

Click on the buttons below to access some suggested activities suitable for all classes. Resources are available in English and Irish. Feel free to adapt these activities to suit the needs of your class.

Finally, there are  a variety of resources on our website  https://www.pdst.ie/primary/stem/mathematics to support schools in mathematics.
