School level

Odd One Out activities are suitable for all age groups. By encouraging all pupils to ‘have a go’ and ‘valuing all contributions’, the skills of reasoning, communicating and expressing are developed. Success is based on skills rather than answers. It also allows every pupil to partake in the activity, no matter what their ability.

Examples of questions/prompts to promote classroom discussion:
● Which one do you think is the odd one out?
● Give me a reason.
● Try to give me another reason why that one might be odd.
● Who had a different answer?
● Give me a reason why each one might be the odd one out.

Take a look at this short video from our ‘STEM in a Bubble’ webinar which explores ‘Odd One Out’ activities further. A complete recording of this webinar along with the resources referenced is available here.

Below you will find some Odd One Out stories to try with the pupils in your class. For more examples, see http://wodb.ca/
