Mystery Image is an excellent activity to develop pupils' understanding of observation and inference using different stimuli. Scientists use both observations and inferences when they are making sense of and interpreting data/evidence. Observations may focus on various characteristics of objects or materials, for example, shape, size, texture, colour or pattern. Inferences can be different but they must be based on the evidence.

Providing pupils with magnified images of objects can give them a valuable insight into the composition of things. These images can be created using the “Magnifying Glass” app. This app allows you to capture an image and zoom in and out using a slider with up to 10 times magnification.
