Winter Solstice

Thursday, 21 December 2023

This is what is called the shortest day of the year. In fact it is the day when the north pole is tilted away from the sun. Think about it. But the day was also important to the ancient people.

In the classroom: Explain what happens on the 'shortest day of the year'. Take a look at Newgrange and see what happens there on the morning of the winter solstice. WorldBook Online gives a simple explanation of when the seasons begin.
