Shrove Tuesday

Tuesday, 1 March 2022

This is the day before Ash Wednesday, the date in the Christian calendar that marks the start of Lent. Shrove Tuesday is also known as Panckake Tuesday and it is traditionally a day in which people eat lots of panckakes before fasting for Lent.

In many parts of England it is common to have panckake races in which people race up a street with a frying pan and a pancake. Are there any customs in your area associated with the day?
